Hi Jade, thanks for offering some feedback. You're correct, the official Helvetica font is not free, however there are many similar fonts you can find for download that are very similar and it also comes (for free, essentially) with many software packages that you purchase.

Hi ...ar, you may be able to find a free "version" of helvetica, but the official Helvetica font itself is not free. You may also want to check out our many other Helvetica articles with additional resources.

Mark - thanks for your comments about free Helvetica fonts and the new naming, that will be helpful to readers who are searching in vain for free fonts..likely most people end up downloading the fonts that only closely resemble Helvetica.

This article is very misleading. The real Helvetica fonts are not free. They are copyrighted and licensed. However, you can find some fonts that closely resemble Helvetica. The look-alikes can only resemble Helvetica because of copyright restrictions.

Also, be aware that if you try and buy Helvetica fonts you won't find them any more. They were renamed as Helvetica-Std (actually HelveticaLT-Std). The Helvetica-Std fonts are not identical to the original Helvetica fonts, and some applications (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Reader, etc.) will treat the two as different fonts. The Helvetica-Std fonts may have some additional distribution restrictions that the original Helvetica fonts did not have.

At the top of this page under "Ads by Google" the "Download Free Fonts Here" link takes you to "EZ Fonts" that has one giant Download button. While downloading my PC detected & quarantined a virus.

Yep. The links to those "free" fonts are actually pay sites. You have to purchase them. I've looked everywhere and there is not free helvetica font. Suckage.
